Presentation night
Congratulations to everyone on another fantastic presentation night. I was so proud of our class' behaviour and their beautiful singing. All that practice definately paid off, you were all AMAZING!!!!!!!!

Touch typing
Touch typing is very similar to running writing. The purpose is to improve speed and accuracy. Just like moving from printing to running writing takes some time to get used to, so does using only your pointer fingers to using all your fingers. Over the course of the year we have been working on our touch typing. Below is a diagram which shows what fingers to use when. There are also several games online, as well as ones you can purchase that allow you to practice.

Instructions for our Christmas Pom Poms - from Martha Stewart website
Hanging Pom-Poms1. Stack eight 20-by-30-inch sheets of tissue. Make 1 1/2-inchwide accordion folds, creasing with each fold.
2. Fold an 18-inch piece of floral wire in half, and slip over center of folded tissue; twist. With scissors, trim ends of tissue into rounded or pointy shapes.
3. Separate layers, pulling away from center one at a time.
4. Tie a length of monofilament to floral wire for hanging.
Napkin RingsWith just a few changes, these follow the same steps as the hanging pom-poms.
1. Stack four sheets of tissue. Cut a 10-by-5-inch rectangle, going through all layers. Make 3/8-inch-wide accordion folds.

Star of the week, Miss Axton
Hi everyone,
I have been at Mt Lawley Primary School since 2010. I have always taught years 3-6 but teaching year 5 is my favourite! My favourite memories of MLPS are coming to school everyday and seeing my class' beautiful smiling faces! I have also thoroughly enjoyed our excursions to King's Park and Gingin observatory this year.
My favourite subjects at school was art and maths because I found art extremely relaxing and enjoyable, whilst I was challenged my maths which I enjoyed.
My hobbies are taking my dogs for walks and to the beach, going shopping (of course), making cards and going to the gym.
My family are all from Victoria. They come to visit reguarly but I still miss them a lot. My Mum has actually come to visit earlier this year meeting most of the class. She is also a teacher but she teaches Kindy in Victoria. She is very little, funny and extremely patient.
I hope you enjoyed reading about me on our blog today.

Apple apps talk - Melanie Tarr
Melanie Tarr was kind enough to come into our class today to talk to us about how to create our own apps. It was great to see how simple templates are easy to create.
The first program she showed us was called X-code which is free to use. It has lots of templates to choose from that you can adapt to create your own. It is FREE to download which is great! At the moment you can't run it on your iPad but you can put it on your apple computer.
Cocos 2d is also a free program that Melanie showed us that she actually preferes. You once again get to choose from a range of templates. You can also install extra templates that you may want to use. It allows you to use graphics, better sound options and more.
We watched Melanie go through step by step how to create a game with ninjas and ghouls. We watched as characters got put on the screen, the ghouls started moving, collision detection and finishing touches. The game is based around maths triangles. It is a great activity to connect classroom activities with real life experiences.

Luke's final day
Even though you haven't been here that long Luke you have become a big part of our class. We wish you all the best for your move and good luck for your new school. We will miss you lots so make sure you keep in contact with all your friends you have made this term!
Costumes for presentation night
Well that time of year is nearly upon us again. Presentation night will be a fantastic performance of Aladdin and we will be singing one of the best songs, "A whole new world!". Every year we do a different performance at the end of the year and every class participates.
Due to singing Aladdin songs this year we each need to come up with an arabian style costume.
For boys your costume can be as easy as a pair of shorts and a vest.
Girls can wear a genie costume, sarongs, with floaty scarves or a beach kaftan.
